Hi and welcome to the weekend. I have had a most egg-cellent week and I hope you have, too! Yes folks, today we are talking eggs!
I am a firm believer in that old advertising slogan from back in the 1950s “go to work on an egg” and I have recently started sourcing my eggs from a local smallholding run by a lovely lady called Elaine Forsyth, which means I can have a freshly laid organic egg for breakfast. Elaine also has quails’ eggs which are the best canapé snack.

Hello and welcome to the second weekend in October. This is one of my favourite months for food. As I mentioned last week, it is boom time for truffles in Italy. This got me thinking about English mushrooms – also in season right now – which can be fabulous in risotto. Why not give them a try?
And now to this week’s book which is The Great British Bake Off: Perfect Cakes & Bakes To Make At Home and the official companion guide to the 2016 series. Sadly, this will probably be the last Bake Off we see from both Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood, so if you are fan of the show don’t miss this book. The classic orange and lemon drizzle cake is delicious, and the book has more than 100 recipes for you to try. Happy baking!

So we are now into autumn, a great season for food and one of my favourite ingredients – the elusive and rare white truffle.
The white truffle comes into season in the Italian countryside near Alba in October. San Carlo restaurants always have a good supply, so if you have never experienced white truffle before then book a table at the new restaurant Fumo in Covent Garden, which is going to have the most spectacular truffle menu in London!
